Gippsland
Lakes & Wilderness Victoria
South and east of Melbourne, Gippsland is a land of lakes,
lagoons and rivers where five rivers end their journey to
the sea in an intricate network of waterways. Fresh and salt
water meet and mix here creating a paradise of sheltered
islands, spits and inlets with abundant fish, wildlife and
golden beaches.
Extending from the Dargo High Plains in the Great Dividing
Range and running down to Gippsland Lakes Coastal Park, the
region includes Ninety Mile Beach, Wilsons Promontory
National Park and Philip Island, of race car fame.
Fish to your heart's content, go swimming and boating; watch
the fairy penguins and koalas on Philip Island; enjoy
spectacular Wilsons Promontory National Park; view the
staggering array of wildlife at The Lakes; explore the
highlands, tramp and camp.
