The town of Echuca, population 10 000, was the Victorias most substantial inland river port. It is its history that has become the basis for the town's reorientation as a tourism centre. Echuca is located in a largely irrigated pastoral and agricultural district. There is some manufacturing and stock saleyards in town but tourism is the main industry now.
