Murray NSW
Forming much of the border between New South Wales and
Victoria, the Murray, flowing from the Snowy Mountains in
the North East to Encounter Bay in South Australia, is
Australia's most important inland waterway.
With a kilometer long red gum wharf, Echuca was once
Australia's busiest inland port. Full of colonial-heritage
you can transport yourself back in time and take a ride on a
horsedrawn carriage or a restored steam engine or head down
river to explore the area on one of the paddlesteamers still
in operation. The beautiful riverside town of Albury found
on the NSW border has plenty to do including canoeing, white
water rafting, fishing, water skiing, bushwalking, horse
riding and skiing (in the winter).
Heading west along the Murray make sure to stop at Cowra the
small wine town, famous for the Lindemans wine and the many
other gold mining and historic towns nearby. With something
for everyone young and old, the Murray is an amazing place
to visit.
