 Katherine -
Northern Territory
A regional centre three hundred kilometres south of Darwin,
Katherine caters to the vast cattle stations of the interior
as well as local horticulture. Located on Highway One, which
continues on to Western Australia via the Victoria Highway,
it is famous for the spectacular Katherine Gorge with its
towering sandstone cliffs and waterfalls.
Visiting the amazing Katherine Gorge is a must; go by river
cruise, by helicopter flight or paddle your own canoe, but
see it! Swim in the waterfall pools at Edith Falls in
Nitmiluk National Park and the hot pools by the Katherine
River or at Mataranka; go on a Barra Fishing Tour or a
Dreamtime Safari; see the Outback Heritage Museum and the
Cutta Cutta Caves; check out the 'We of The Never Never'
Museum.
