The Tropic of Capricorn bisecting this area gives it a unique address.  Rockhampton, the regional centre, is a pleasant city; proud of its many wonderful heritage buildings and of its title ‘Beef Capital of Australia’. It sits astride the Fitzroy River a short drive inland from its smaller seaside cousin of Yeppoon.

Visit the gold fields or tour the limestone caves, fossick for sapphires or camp in the remarkable Carnarvon Gorge, stay on a farm or lounge on the beach, fish on the reef at Great Keppel Island – or just enjoy the city.
