Eyre Peninsula South Australia
Rolling endlessly one thousand kilometres
from Whyalla on the Spencer Gulf to the border with Western Australia,
the Eyre Peninsula boasts a ruggedly beautiful coastline of soaring
cliffs, golden beaches and sheltered bays, and vast desert plains
stretching inland to the Gawler Ranges, an area of deep gorges and
volcanic rock domes, and east to Port Lincoln, the regional hub.
Explore Whyalla, and snorkel amongst the
giant cuttlefish, see the seahorse farm at Port Lincoln, a town of
seafood and aquaculture, sample a crayfish at Elliston, try the booming
surf at Venus Bay or hike the empty beaches and sleep under the stars,
swim with the dolphins and sealions at Baird Bay, whale watch at Head of
Bight, taste an oyster at Ceduna. Travel the Nullarbor, stand on the
sheer cliffs and admire the turquoise waters far below; here you are
truly alone with only the whales and the wedgetail eagles for company.
